Has anyone stayed in the North Shore area and had a really good experience? I'm looking for recommendations - hotels or cabins, mainly, near Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock - for next weekend ---.
Thanks!

It has been years and years...we used to go to Cascade Lodge. They had/have a restaurant and rooms and cabins. I have no idea how well kept the place is these days, but it always was a modest place. It might be north of where you want to be. Beautiful area.
Laura,
Josh and I spent our honeymoon at Cove Point Lodge. It's just down the road from Split Rock, and we absolutely loved it. I would go back there in a heartbeat! (The North Shore is one of our favorite places on earth!)
I think the nightly rates are similar to other upscale places, but there may be some seasonal specials or something. I believe they have a website if you do a Google Search or something.
I'm jealous! I want to go to the shore!
Hey Laura -
Sounds like fun! We've always stayed somewhere in Grand Marais. Don't know why, but we like it there. I know the place we stayed on our Honeymoon is closed now, but you could Google Bed and Breakfasts...you might come up with something great.
Or, if you don't mind staying in Duluth, Fittgers is kinda cool.
The one time I stayed up there it was at Bluefin Bay with Liza's family (and I didn't have to pay so I can't comment on price) but we had a good time. http://www.bluefinbay.com/
Enjoy your trip regardless of where you stay!
Eric and I spent spring break in Two Harbors our last year in Bemidji. We stayed at Superior Shores Resort, and liked it. It was more affordable than a lot of other places in the area, and nice enough to make us happy (we're moderately picky). Just brace yourself in advance for all the dead animals in the bar.
It's too bad you're going next weekend--Eric and I will be staying in Duluth the following weekend!
