I've been watching This American Life the last few evenings, and tonight I had a great moment, a "text to text" connection as we like to say to our students :) In the book I just finished (My Life As An Experiment, A.J. Jacobs), the author does one experiment a chapter (he spends a month committing to "unitasking", he poses nude for a magazine, he goes undercover as a woman, a few others - ), describing what he did and reflecting on it. One chapter is called "Radical Honesty", where he vows to only tell the truth, including saying whatever pops into his head. (yeah, like Liar, Liar). He interviews a guy who lives by this and wrote a book on the topic, Brad Blanton - a man who ran for a Senate seat, actually. (Of course in the interview the hot-button topics like sex and drugs come up. Turns out Blanton has slept with 'more than 500 women and about a half a dozen men'.) So, anyway. Tonight on This American Life, one of the "acts" was about this guy! It was neat, especially to get some of the gaps from the book (since it was just a short chapter) filled in.
Adam and I are in love with This American Life. I'm sad because I think there are only a couple of episodes left.....don't think it went beyond the second season. Maybe. I need to check it out. I want to start listening to the show in the evenings, though - would hate to see radio shows die out.
