I'm actually kind of scared of my pumpkin plants. At the time, Adam and I weren't even sure the stuff would grow - any of it. So we planted everything, and too close together. Definitely pumpkins need patches. Big ones. This picture doesn't begin to do justice to these things. They're sending tentacles out over the other vegetables, and the leaves are really prickly, and I think one of the flowers even tried to bite at my finger this morning...

The summer has been great as far as lessons learned. The square garden inside the fence doesn't get enough light, so next year it's probably going to have shade flowers instead of vegetables. The lettuce I planted from seed is growing well, though. So maybe flowers and lettuce.

Here are the Cosmos! It's still a miracle to me, herbs and lettuce and flowers that start from seeds and grow up so beautifully.
And the Morning Glories. I love how they climb! I think I need to give them even more space.

its so much fun really :) we learned the squash leasson the hard way last year ... we had no idea how much those leaves spread and how incredibly prickly and mean they could be, lol ... gave them loads of room this year ... saved me a whole lot of grief :)
tee hee
i heart your cosmos ... must grow cosmos next year!!
yes ---- we have squash, too! they hang out with the pumpkins.
We STILL plant everything too close togehter. I think it is a reaction after the long cold winter. We just can't really believe that thoses seeds will really grow those big plants. This year we had some problems with germination, so there is a big empty spot in the middle of the garden. Last year, I made a point of leaning over the fence to pick stuff because I thought if I went in side the fence, I might get tangled up in the stems and vines, fall down, and never be found. I'm only half joking.
