Adam and Laura's Cooking Show
Watch for it. Coming soon. I don't know what we'll call it - maybe just Adam and Laura's Cooking Show. But we're suddenly wild about cooking. I had Adam make the asparagus tonight --- . He's always extremely complimentary and thankful when I make dinner, but it really is different when you make it yourself, or have a large part in the creation of a meal. So anyway, I wanted him to snap the asparagus, and roll it in olive oil, and coat it all with salt and pepper, just in case it made him want to do MORE..! Sure enough..... We just kept going! We sauteed mushrooms in butter and red wine (thank you, April, for the red wine suggestion!), and then we sauteed shrimp. We made more mushrooms (this time with white whine) and - finally - some whole grain rice. We put it all together ---- Seriously amazing. I have never been this into cooking, but suddenly I really want to work hard at it. I want to know intimately every single vegetable in the grocery store, even if I don't especially love them all. I want to understand them, and how they work, and what it takes to make them taste extraordinary. What a motivator for a garden this summer ---. I'm already imagining what it's like to have GROWN the food that you take such time and care to prepare. Please, spring and summer - Faster!

Yay! Food can be so much fun and what a treat in the end for all that work for it to be so yummy. It also doesn't have to be complicated. I love roasting asparagus and I usually add some shallots and Parmesan, unbelievably good.
I miss the days when I cooked more than Mac and Cheese and Hot Dogs!!!
Someday, the kids will have more interest in food and I can return to real cooking!
Sounds delicious, Laura!
