It Takes All Types

I learned yesterday at my staff day seminar on "Dealing With Difficult People" that I am the Get Along type. Is it ironic that right behind me sat a girl I don't really get along with, putting everyone on our staff into one of the four categories? I hate categories. The truth is, nobody is really any one type. (The other three types are the Get it Done, the Get it Right, and the Get Appreciated. Talk about de-humanizing.) The speaker was trying to help us work with each other, and he talked of types because when people are under pressure, they tend to veer toward one of these types more than any other. Makes sense, I guess.

Anyway, since I AM the Get Along type and there's absolutely no escaping that :), I feel the need to explain my "cherish" list. I didn't put any people - family or friends - because those are "givens" for me. Instead I tried to focus on elements of the work I am doing and the place I am living, since these are easiest for me to complain about. It was a great exercise---I've had a much more positive attitude today!

I find I still have much more to say about the seminar from yesterday, but I should (could) just stop here. What struck me funniest, though (besides Adam's drawings of each "type") was that certain people in the group exemplified each type without even realizing it. One woman asked for the microphone and called everyone who was intimidated by "get it done" people "crybabies". Nice.

Anyway.
Goodnight!

I'd pay good money to see those drawings.

And yes...I was hoping we could be eachother's divining date thingawhatevers this weekend! What perfect timing, huh? Serendipitous, even. :)

wow, i can't believe that women called people crybabies! sheesh! i think i'm probably in the get along group as well, but who knows. don't worry about explaining your cherished list! i'm sure we could all go on for days about what we cherish, this was just a sampling! :-) i didn't think anything of your family not being there, i just liked your list (but i understand the desire to explain, truly.)

Wow, bullies are the same everywhere aren't they? I like a lot of get it done people but they certainly don't have any patience with special needs people. Oh well. That's great you know what type of person you are. I was shocked when I found out that according to the colour personality type I was a blue! Me? A people-person? No way! :)
