The End of an Era

Adam and I sold the Focus today! Actually, it was Adam who did the work, but we said goodbye together. It's a huge relief, since it's been such a tough winter car and we've needed to sell it, but yet - it's strange to suddenly be without this huge part of our lives. For five years, it's been the only vehicle we've owned, so it's gone everywhere with us - whether we've been alone or together. We have driven to Red Lake in it countless times, jammed a Christmas tree in it and driven three hours, blasted Sublime and 311 through its speakers on the way to the North Shore, gotten lost in it, fought in it, laughed (a lot), transported Monty around and let him stick his head and floppy ears out the window, visited friends and family. It's been good to us. It has kept us safe - probably thanks to the clip-on visor angel Mom gave us (blessed with holy water) - through many frightening, snowy trips. I am thankful. May it bring good memories and safe travels to some other young hopefuls.

Yeah, another post for my birthday! Isn't it funny how we can be sentimental over stuff like this.. I hope the new owners have just as many good memories.

We're selling our Focus too, but trading it for another Focus. I really love that Focus, but it isn't such a good car on slippery roads. IT is just too narrow, with tires too narrow for slippery roads. Ours is 8 years old. B was driving an old, very rusty, Tarus, but it was very stable in winter. But we sold that too, for a small amount of $.

Just wait... you'll be in a minivan before you know it! (We love ours for the road trips to Cook!)

Enjoy the new (to you) car.

your post reminded me of the transitions we all make in life...from new couple, to newlyweds, to new parents and on. it's funny how one thing - one random object - can create such feelings, right! especially when you wrote "we fought in it, we laughed in it." so many moments...

loved this post :)

Oh man. I've been thinking about selling my Focus for a year or so now, but just can't bring myself to part with it. I've been closer than usual to selling it, but this post has definitely swung the pendulum back toward KEEP. Like it or not, that hunk of metal is a piece of my heart.
