Who Gets Polled?

Because I didn't, and I'm sure not a white woman who has "shifted" my support to McCain. As you may already know. But seriously. Does anyone know where the media gets these poll results? They never say, as far as I've noticed, and they never talk about how many people are polled. You could take ten white women and get the same results: (50% support for O to 42% for M a few weeks ago; 41% to 53% now.) And I don't mean to offend anyone, but who are these women who are being fooled by Palin? I recently saw a photo of her (that I'm pretty sure was not Photoshopped) in an American flag bikini, holding some sort of huge gun. That's certainly not my only problem with her, but come on. That's in slightly poor taste. I also have a problem with the fact that she's lied about stuff (like this), but mainstream, Republican-based media is certainly not going to go there.

Anyway. So, at least politics once again got me writing. I've had a rough week or so, and I'm just trying to find my footing. Holy sh#!, seventh graders. One of them wrote to me today the following: "...if there was a mean award, you'd get it.....you suck, suck, suck, suck, suck.....this class is gay....". Another wrote that he hates my "stinking guts".

I can't deny - despite my recognizing this battle for power- that my feelings were hurt. But also, I'm kind of proud. At least I'm not a pushover with the kids anymore, like my first year...!

Hope all is well with all of you - -

Just so you know, the Palin pic is a fake - http://gawker.com/5046643/cnn-duped-by-palin-photoshop

Sorry you had a rough day.

They didn't call me either. I just have a hard time believing how some of the "Christians" are praising her for being so snarky in her speech. I have a hard time with Dr. Dobson saying that when her pick was announced, he was at a meeting of 200 conservative yada yada yada...and they stood up and cheered. That was BEFORE anything about her was known.

I read some how that some people are thinking that these polls might be suspect these days because so many young people ONLY have cell phones and, generally, the numbers are unlisted.

Thanks, Rob. I should've checked into the pic before posting.

Any person who is such a snob and can sneer at "community service" and get cheers for it is beyond me. And I'm Canadian! Ugh. She sucks.

And even though it must have been painful to see those messages like that, I think it shows you rule the class. And good for you Laura!

Palin is an advertising tactic for McCain (as, admittedly, Biden is for Obama, but at least the guy's qualified for the job), and we already know the average American is a sucker for advertising.

I think your students should get the mean award. I mean, not to pick on seventh graders, but you're just doing your job well. They're making it personal. And I think any teacher understands the tightrope walk between being firm and being liked.

Wow. I just watched the ABC interview of Palin by Gibson. Frightening. She is really not experienced! I understand that we don't want "business as usual" with all these talking head politicians, but we can't hire a person to lead the country if she has NO experience and no real mind of her own.

Let's go register some voters! This is crazy!!!!!!!!

oh, by the way - my mom and dad just adore her. "she's one of us," they say. it was refreshing for them to hear a moral republican talk, rather than a fiscal or military republican.
