The Life of Mushroom in our Yard
This thing materialized sometime during the night Saturday and was "full grown" Sunday morning. I was first made aware of its presence when Monty started growling and kind of leaping backwards, barking at it too. No wonder. And this morning, just one day later, it's gone.

what kind of mushroom is it? i've been searching the internet all day for an answer. did it stink? was it sticky? did it have a hood at some point?

Yes! It did have a hood. I didn't breathe when I got close enough to take a picture just in case it was toxic... (for real...it sure looks like it could have been), and I definitely didn't touch it. But it did have a hood.
