"The amount spent on weapons every minute could feed two thousand malnourished children for a year. The price of one military tank could provide classrooms for thirty thousand students. Imagine the state of our health if we spent this kind of money on "things worth living for" instead of "things worth dying for."
This is today's quote from Christiane Northrup (Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom), and I think it's a great one. I know I've been really political lately, but I guess I'm getting swept up in all that's going on. ---- I guess it seems like Obama will get the nomination. I really have been uncertain about which I want - him or Clinton (I think referring to her as "Hillary" is condescending, although I've done it before...... - ), but it's exciting nonetheless. I don't want to lose hope that someday we can really get someone honest in the White House. Not that there hasn't been honesty there before, but man....the human race is fallible, I guess. We're wired to survive and come out on top --- natural selection. I just think we're special in that we can make the choice NOT to hurt others along the way.....
Anyway. I didn't mean to talk about anything political this time. Tomorrow's my birthday and I'm excited. I took the day off on a whim and half-expected not to be granted the request, but low and behold... (after some negotiating, actually, since we have a couple of drills scheduled...), I've got it.
I'm such a little kid about my birthday. Adam was making fun of me today about it: "It's my birthday tomorrow, so I'm gonna...." in this little kid voice. But he's right. But also: I'm glad I'm not done being excited about my birthday. I can be very grown up and professional when I need to be, but come on............... It gets old. That's why I love displaying bumper stickers on my car (of course one of my colleagues said it's "such a college thing to do"....), and I love thinking birthdays are a big deal.
I hope everyone is having a good week --- Happy Hump Day!

HBT You-ooooo
I'm sending you an ecard, but I think it will get into your email spam folder, darn it.
Happy Birthday, Laura! Enjoy your day off!
happy happy happy birthday : )
woo!! hugs!!
I'm excited that you're excited about your birthday! Hope it's happy. :)
Happy Birthday Laura and I love hearing your political voice! What you think and feel about politics is important, at least to me. I'm excited about the next election and I'm Canadian! As an American, you must be thrilled just to hopefully see some change.
I hope you have a fantastic birthday and I'm a big kid about them too.
Happy birthday, Laura!
My friend Maisha celebrates birth months rather than days in her family. (One day is a lot of pressure, when you really think about it.) I like the idea. So, happy birth month to you!
