Easter Weekend

The last several days have been amazing. It's hard to know where to start as far as "capturing" the experiences, so I'll just try to summarize. Thursday we saw my parents, and I'd missed them a lot so it was a really nice visit. Friday Adam and I headed over to Duluth, did some shopping and then found our hotel (Superior Shores Resort; thank you, Amber, for the recommendation~!). The top three pictures are from that evening. My god, how we needed the relaxation in a brand-new atmosphere. One of my favorite things about the room (besides the view) was the little book that we found on the desk that said, "Welcome to our home. Please share a memory with us. 2005". In it was page after page of messages from people who had stayed in the exact room we were in, and all of these just warmed my heart; it has been a special place for so many people. --- The next day, we headed to Chris and Katie's, who opened their home to us for the evening. Friends came over, and the guys played video games while Katie and I hung out and made blended margaritas. We also fawned over their adorable cats, Dahlia and Penelope. Big Black and Little White :) Sunday I met up with my brother and was introduced to his girlfriend Sarah (she seems fantastic), and then we met Adam and Chris and Katie for the 311 concert. If I can say one thing about that experience, let it be that I am thankful I am still alive. Don't get me wrong: the night was wonderful and exhilarating and I felt like I was eighteen again. But I also felt, while I was on the floor near the front and all the time shoving people away from me, my arm linked with Matt's for pure survival, that I was always only two seconds away from being knocked over and getting my head bashed in. Still. What a total rush :)
Yesterday we left the Cities early and drove to St. Cloud, where we saw Jessica (Adam's sister) for lunch and then my grandma in Foley. We are so exhausted after all of this, but I just kept telling myself on the drive home (as I was fighting to keep my eyes open) that I feel so, so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. I feel lucky that I had the opportunity to visit with them.
I hope all of you had a good Easter weekend. I certainly missed the more traditional Easter that I usually celebrate, but I'm sure that will happen again next year. This one is a holiday I won't soon forget, and for that I am grateful.

Hi Laura,

I am so glad you had this weekend to reconnect and hopefully get recharged. We forget how much our loved ones mean to us as days flow into each other and the pressure, stress, and ups and downs of life get to us.

Thank God for the chance to step back, appreciate those we love, our surroundings and the feeling of being alive.

Hugs

Thank you for sharing about your weekend! It sounds totally fantastic. I was informed by one of my students today that we have 45 school days left until summer. I think I can handle that. :)

Oh Laura! It sounds perfect. I'm so glad you had a chance to get away and I love that idea of the journal.

Thank you for your recent comment. It's snowing here this morning again and I'm trying to stay strong. Friends like you help make that happen.

Laura,

You're so thoughtful and loving! You strive for meaning and connection in your life, when a lot of us are just plodding along.
The world would be better if we all had our eyes wide open to the beauty, as you do.

Sounds wonderful. And potentially dangerous! Am glad you had fun (and survived the concert!).
