Anyway. So today was the first day of the third quarter, and of the 7th grade's new schedule. I'm utterly exhausted. And the kids are pretty pissed off, too, overall, so it was a fun day.
During the last fifteen minutes, I had them fill out an index card with a plus, a minus and a question mark---- Comments about their first day and this big change. Here's mine:
+ Advisor - my first twenty minutes - went beautifully. Even though it was a new group, they were already sharing.
- Um.... . Ok. Here's one. I teach a class from a cart, moving a few doors down to the history teacher's class. I just have to figure it out and be organized.
? How does the new grading system work? (I REFUSE to get behind on grading again this quarter.)
My weekend was good. I met my friends Jen and Cherie at Perkins --- It was really good to see them and catch up. We had a co-worker (he teaches in both the high school and middle school) and his wife come over, and we played some Rock Band and talked. Also, Adam's mom and sister came Sunday and stayed the night, and we had a lot of fun. This is one of the reasons I'm so grateful we live near our families... And I think my brother is coming this weekend!
I'm hoping to sleep better tonight. I am not usually one to "lose sleep" over something too easily, so.... I guess that helps explain what a big deal this change has been for my fellow teachers and me (and the students).
On our "daily news" sheet today, our assistant principal put a quote that I have a feeling was for our benefit...something about "it's better to try and fail than to have never..." . I tried to find it but couldn't, so I'll put this one instead: "If you're not failing every now and again, it's a sign you're not doing anything very innovative." -Woody Allen
I don't mean to suggest that we're doomed to fail. We might, but then again---It might be the most incredible success ever. Either way, it is definitely good that we're trying something.
Okay. Time to get some rest.
I hope all of you are well!

I have a tendency to procrastinate. Lately I had it big time because I've been asked by our mutual friend (A.C.G.S.) to make something for her. Well, the computer is a easy procrastination machine. And then there is doing more "research" in books about the subject.
I read once that procrastination can be a way of not trying something new. And if we don't try something, we can't fail, so ultimately, this type of procrastination is way to keep from failing.
Actually, I have finally started on the practice pieces, so I'm making progress and I'll let you know at the right time!
"I don't mean to suggest that we're doomed to fail. We might, but then again---It might be the most incredible success ever."...oh, thank you for these words. I love this!! It makes me feel thankful for all the strange and unexpected detours my life has taken.
