I haven't been writing because I can't really write about work, and....well, I feel like I've been living and breathing nothing else lately. Adam and I have been getting up at 4 or 4:30 and arriving at school before ANY other teachers this last week--- It's been strange. I'm much happier because I'm more organized, especially because I got to move into a brand-new, fresh room, but I'm also exhausted. There are also the other little annoyances, like totally destroyed brake pads and expensive blinds that are actually light filtering and not "complete darkness"... (LIKE IT SAYS ON THE BOX AND I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT). Does anyone have experience with those "privacy liners" or blackout liners? I hope they're easy because that's what I'm counting on. From our neighbor's nighttime viewpoint, you can see our bed squarely in the window, THROUGH THE BLINDS.
On a more positive note: Umm.... 1) I'm reading The Kite Runner and I love it. 2) I made mini mushroom pizzas last night and they were good. 3) Monty and I went for a walk tonight and it wasn't absolutely freezing. 4) I talked to my mom tonight and she and Dad are having a marvelous time in Florida. 5) Hillary Clinton won in New Hampshire (though I'm not entirely sure anymore who I'm voting for but intend to decide before I vote in my FIRST primary election... I can't believe I never realized that the primaries are important). 6) I still have my Christmas tree up and it makes me happy. 7) I know where everything is in my classroom now. 8.) I'm drinking a glass of pretty tasty red wine. 9.) My bed is cozy and I get to climb into it pretty soon. 10.) Adam and I caught our brake problem before it became a major issue.
I hope all of you are having a good week!

Quick cheap solution for your window: Get a spring tension rod the right width. Get some light blocking cloth or use a towel the right width and height. Make a "casing" for the tension rod by folding the end of the towel over about three inches. Pin from the side that will face the window. Insert the tension rod, and presto, you have a light blocking curtain until you can figure out something better.
Is it possible that your blinds will block more light if you tip them completely the other way when you close them? It is worth a try.
I also have no clue as to who I would vote for. Someone smarter than the present pres, of course, but other than that, I don't know.
One question -- how did you find out that your neighbors can see your bed through the blinds? Did they tell you? AWK-ward!!!
No. I suspected that they could, so I walked over to their house and stood in front of one of their windows. Sure enough.
What kind of window coverings are they? That'll impact my suggestion :)
And, I love your list of things to look forward to - even the cozy bed that the neighbors can squarely see :) HEEHEEHEE
They're Roman blinds, bamboo.
Thanks, Lois, for the suggestion, by the way!
i put a black out shade in my son's room and it works brilliantly though i found it ugly so we spray painted fabric to it and it looks really wonderful. i am planning on doing one of the kitchen windows the same way :)
