"Leave the dishes."

I've been shuffling in and out of the house, trying to gather the motivation to do the dishes and pick up the clothes from my bedroom floor. MPR is playing in the background of my wandering, and "The Writer's Almanac" with Garrison Keillor just came on. Even if the radio show was just his voice talking about nothing much, I'd be satisfied because I love his voice, but this show----- It's really wonderful. I was reminded of the first poem I heard on this show, "Advice to Myself" by Louise Erdrich, and now-----I feel justified in my hesitation about the dishes, and the clothes. It's okay. I'd rather just sit and read the paper and watch Montgomery roll around in the grass. And any mold that might grow while I postpone the dishwashing?! "Accept new forms of life," Erdrich writes.
That's a nice way to look at it :)

Good for you! I've been leaving the sweeping this week which hasn't been easy but sometimes you gotta take it easy right? You are very wise Laura!

Enjoy that time to yourself. Read, reflect, relax - just be! There's always time to clean, but we often miss the opportunities to savor a quiet moment. Savor!!! The dishes will still be there tomorrow!
