Adam and I attended the Red Lake High School graduation ceremony this afternoon. I hadn't been looking forward to making the long drive on a day I didn't have to be there, but I'm so glad we went. I was so proud of these students I know only through Adam's stories or comments, and I know he was, too. It lifted his spirits a bit, which he has very much needed. (The last few weeks at school have been tough as far as attendance, motivation, behaviors, etc.) During the ceremony, I kept picturing my students - last year's and present - and hoping from the deepest part of myself that they can all make it to graduation. I know many of them won't, if you go by the statistics. But...maybe. Maybe they can start turning it around. It's very hard for me to do my job when I let myself believe things there will never change.
I have been so tired and lazy lately that it was kind of a major chore to put on a pair of jeans and go out tonight. Adam's and my friend Matt is visiting, and we all went to Corner Bar (within "staggering distance" - as Adam says - from our new place :) - Anyway, I did muster the energy to get myself out into the misty night, and I walked the three blocks to the bar. The Twins were playing, and the game went to the thirteenth inning before our guys lost. Some extremely drunk guys were behind us (one who looked exactly like Sawyer from Lost, for whatever that's worth) being so obnoxious. Now, who am I to say you HAVE to cheer for the Twins just because you're from Minnesota...But I couldn't help but feel - as a few of them were hooting for the Blue Jays - it was sacrilegous.
Adam and Matt just got back, and I'm getting kicked off this computer. I hope all of you are having a good Saturday night.

It sounds like you had kind of a good evening...??? Drunken idiots can really mess up a good time.
We were at a barbecue last night, it was awesome! So nice to be getting out and social again. You can tell summer's around the corner can't you?
Your new place is very close to my old place; we could see the Corner Bar from a couple of our windows. But we only went there a handful of times in the three years we lived in that house. Alas, we're bar snobs.
