Because Natasha wrote about this book with such passion, I bought it Saturday and just finished it this morning. It is an incredible book. I'd never gotten into Vonnegut before and, in fact,(I can't believe I'm admitting this) in high school I pretended to read Slaughterhouse V. I didn't even know it was about the bombing of Dresden, for goodness sake. But this book----it makes me want to find everything he's written and try again. The way he talks about the state of our government, our planet----In his simple language, he says things straight and it's terrifying. And funny, somehow, because - like he says - if things are really bad, the soul needs to laugh.
Another of my favorite parts is when he describes his uncle, who hated that humans often don't realize when they are happy. So-----(and Vonnegut says he does this now, too) -- if a bunch of people were sitting around on a summer day, sipping lemonade in the shade, the uncle would say, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

May we all find at least one moment today when we realize we can say this----out loud, even~!

I'm so glad you like it, Laura. :) I've decided that if and when I get to teach a freshman comp class, this is going to be the required text. For lessons in writing style, and lessons in politics and history and philosophy and humanity.
