My Predecessors

These beautiful women are the ones who come before me, who continue to teach me and inspire me to become a better person. My grandmother - Nana - lives in Florida, in a perfectly peaceful section of South Pasadena, with a pool and shuffleboard and a house that smells like vanilla, with drawers filled with gifts when we come to visit and shrimp cocktail with the spiciest sauce ready when we arrive, exhausted from our flight. My mom lives in Cook and works at a pharmacy, and I am positive her kind nature brightens the day of many, many people. Both women are slow to anger, have incredible love for family members, enjoy talking on the phone, are avid morning walkers, have a direct line to God, and (among many other things) are fabulous lunch-date partners. Some of my first, greatest memories are of having lunch at Union Station with Mom and Nana, the three of us all dressed up and full of chatter.
My mom and dad are going to visit Nana next week. It makes me happy for them, and it makes me excited for my next visit to Florida. I also look forward to the time when we can have another lunch date - my grandmother, my mother, me, and my little daughter or son. A four-generation lunch date....and maybe a game or two of shuffleboard!
